Leeches! Are you reading this, Mom?
Along with all the other posted notifications that appear on the pretty obvious board as you drive into the Todd Lake recreation area in the George Washington National Forest there’s a notification that leeches have been, for a long time, part of the Todd Lake ecosystem. It makes sense I know. I realize this now, but kids don’t care. I never read the signs when I was a kid. I realize that they’re pretty much harmless, but still, gross. I didn’t spend a lot of time in the lake, but I know I must have spent some amount of time in it.
Gross.
Take a walk through the forest and look up. That’s it.

This was the first stop on my GW Forest visit with my dad the other day. I mainly wanted to check on the foliage to see how far along it was. I’d love to get some images of the fall colors at their peak. This was pretty close.

The foliage is just about to peak at Elkhorn Lake. | Order a print of this image.
I clearly didn’t know what I was looking for this morning during the lunar eclipse. Instead I got to see a pretty awesome sunrise with some low-lying fog. It made for some great scenery. I’ll take it.

I’ve got a series of images that I’ll eventually combine to create a “mapping” image of the Psycho Cross course in Sykesville. There’s so much that’s cool about this venue, but what’s really awesome is that if I look up the address on my iPhone/Mac maps I can actually see the worn areas that mark the race course. Check it out.
Had an architectural shoot out at Lake Holiday today. What an awesome place to shoot. Gonna have to get back there some day to really explore.

I was out doing some mapping photography today and got a preview of the coming Fall colors. I think I’m heading to the national forest next week to shoot some photographs with my UAV. I might even fly at 401 feet. I’m such a rebel!

I only post one image here per day, but I’ve taken countless images over this past year. I should start going back through my photos more often because I’d find stuff that I completely forgot about. Perhaps that’s why I took the image in the first place…
So we took a tour of Handley High School today. We, who have a child who is a current senior. We, who have a child who is a recent graduate. We took a tour of Handley today. It was sort of cool. A little weird, but cool.
We’re trying to get our daughter to start referring to the English hallway as the English Channel. We want to see if we can start something. A tradition of sorts. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge.
Something weird is happening. I’m hating running less these days. I’m not a runner and am not trying to be one. I’d still always choose the bike over running. But I don’t dislike it as much as I used to. This is probably how I’ll remain in shape throughout the winter. Perhaps next year I’ll focus on some sprint and Olympic distance triathlons. Who knows? I do know this though – my body hates running much more than I do. I’m going for a ride.
It’s a real thing. At least as far as the public goes. Disney has yet to officially acknowledge the Hidden Mickey phenomenon, although they do sell Hidden Mickey books in their gift shops. hmmm….
Apparently it all started when EPCOT was being planned as more of an adult-targeted park including the sale of alcohol. Since Disney characters and alcohol were taboo together it was established that none of the characters, especially Mickey, would ever be seen inside that park. Well, the Imagineers took it as a challenge and started incorporating them into everything they could. Voila! Hidden Mickeys.
The general rule is that if it’s not associated with Disney then it’s not really an “official” Hidden Mickey. It’s still fun though.

Not so hidden, but it makes for a great image. | Order a print of this image.
